The “triangle below Canal Street” (TriBeCa) was one of the original neighborhoods to be transformed from a manufacturing district into a chic neighborhood of art and furniture galleries and sophisticated restaurants. Though many celebrities make their home here, it’s known for its low-key vibe. To the east of the triangle, historic buildings mark the path to Chinatown such as the Woolworth Building (the tallest skyscraper in the world when it was built in 1913), St. Paul’s Chapel and City Hall among them. If you wander just to the east of City Hall, you’ll come to the pedestrian entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge, where you can spend a memorable hour crossing the bridge to Brooklyn and back. Chambers Street and nearby Foley Square are the sites for the impressive and imposing architecture of the Surrogate’s Court, and the United States and New York County courthouses.
