A celebratory feeling has settled over the city, which can only mean summer is in full swing! This weekend brings plenty of opportunities to get outside and eat BBQ, celebrate heritage, and dance to live music, see below for some of our picks.

NORTHSIDE FESTIVAL
Thousands gather in Brooklyn for this festival celebrating innovation and creative content. With an incredible line-up of films, art, 150 speakers and over 400 bands, including Brian Wilson, Kacey Musgraves, and Conor Oberst, it’s sure to be an amazing weekend spanning event spaces all over Brooklyn.

CELEBRATE BROOKLYN! FESTIVAL
Take the whole family out to Prospect Park for an afternoon of live music and theatre. Dan Zanes channels iconic blues musician Lead Belly in his upcoming album, and plays portions of it with Ashley Phillips and others at this show honoring the birth of children’s author Ezra Jack Keats. TADA! Youth Theater will also be on hand to perform one of Keats’ stories before the concert.

BIG APPLE BARBECUE BLOCK PARTY
Who says you can’t find good BBQ on the East Coast? Head to Madison Square Park this weekend to sample delicious food from pitmasters around the country, paired with beer, wine and desserts from Texas’s Original Fried Pie Shop and Milk Bar. In addition to great food there will also be live music all weekend!

JAZZ AGE LAWN PARTY
A favorite NYC summer event, The Jazz Age Lawn Party returns to Governor’s Island this weekend! Dress in your finest 1920s clothes, grab a gin cocktail and take a spin on the dance floor backed by live big band music from Michael Arenella and His Dreamland. You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into another time at this wonderful weekend of prohibition era fun!

NATIONAL PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE
The largest demonstration of cultural pride in the nation, this massive parade works its way down Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 79th Street and hosts a week of events promoting Puerto Rican culture, arts and education leading up to the parade.
